“Impressing audiences with beautiful body and movements, surprising concepts, unnecessarily provoking,,, searching for applause, success and fames,,, and when I die none of them will be important for nobody. I have been questioning how dance and art can truly contribute to this world. I searched for great maestros of dance in different disciplines and countries and had chances to study, meet, and talk with them, received so much from them, but never found a clear answer for what I was looking for. I started to observe reality within, now think that ultimate purpose of dance and art is to reveal who we really are, and the current central focus of research is the concrete method of how to realize it in our contemporary art practices in an experiential level”

Motoya Kondo is born in Nagoya, Japan, choreographer, dancer, teacher and co-founder of Motimaru Dance Company. Graduated in Economy at Keio University where he also did research on mythology and native Australian culture with the objective not to "explain" the myth but to "experience" it. From 2006 finding a common theme in butoh he studied with Yoshito Ohno, son of Kazuo Ohno and worked as his assistant. After leaving Japan, he has started field work researches of local and traditional dances in India , Nepal, and Bali, studied with Agun Anom Putra, I Made Djimat, and Ida Bagus Oka Wirjana. Since 2008, he has been researching Eastern ancient techniques of the body, such as Noh theater, different martial arts, Yoga(studied with A.G.Mohan and Indra Mohan) etc. and applying it to contemporary performing art practices.
